INSPIRATIONS
BURO OLE SCHEEREN

Buro Ole Scheeren is a German architect who has built and is currently still building commercial buildings with offices all around the world. After looking at so much of Ole Scheerens work I became inspired at how he connects nature to the structure, with so much natural lighting entering the building.
This was specifically seen in his Studio ZX project where he creates long shafts to allow the light to travel through by doing this he also focuses the natural light onto some of the key elements in the structure. Studio ZX is an artist studio and gallery opened in 2010 in Beijing, China. Ole Scheeren describes Studio ZX as "A sculptural object extending its feelers to catch light and connect to the surrounding landscape" (Ole Scheeren 2018).
I tried incorporating Buro Ole Scheeren in my design by allowing maximum lighting into the building but minimising the amount of heat by keeping the open glass towards the east and the laminated glass preventing heat from entering and giving privacy to the user of the space.
I also was inspired by adding an observatory which was full glass high above the ground and able to have a full view and vision of the sky which is the key for any astronomer.

IRIS

Iris is a Greek goddess who was symbolised by rainbows and was a messenger of the Olympian gods. She is the goddess of sky and sea and the arc of the rainbow was a connection between the clouds and the sea. Others gods see Iris as a messenger and a water pitcher.
Galileo looked up to Iris as a role model as he was an astronomer which was similar to connecting the sky and the ocean. So I added different elements throughout the villa to represent this.

I tried to incorporate different elements to represent Iris as you can see from my storyboard:

-
I represented her with the panoramic views of the bay as she was known as the goddess of sea and water.
-
I created stairs inside as Iris rainbow arc was believed to be the way to the sky.
-
The arc represents the spanning distance between the clouds and the sea.
-
Open air garden showing a relation between nature and the sky.
-
The walkway to the bay represents that she was a water pitcher.
-
Infinity pool in the garden in the Centre to represent the replenishment of rain clouds from the sea.
